CS:GO Season 3 Skill Divisions & Placement Tournament

CS:GO Season 3 Skill Divisions & Placement Tournament

The Season 2 Playoffs are still in full swing, but we're already thinking about how we can improve for Season 3!  As we get ready to open registration for our 3rd CS:GO season post website re-launch, we're happy to announce that we'll be adding a new skill division.  With the start of Season 3, comes the addition of the Intermediate division.  You can read about all of our official Season 3 skill divisions below.

The Open Division (CEVO-O) is open to all teams and is designed for beginner teams who are looking to get their feet wet with competitive play.  Teams in this division play one match per week and compete for cash prizes and the chance to move up to the next skill division at the end of the season.  Beginning in Season 3, the Open division will be separated into regional conferences to improve the ease of scheduling and allow teams to play on servers in their location only.

NEW! The Intermediate Division (CEVO-IM) is a restricted division designed for both new and experienced teams seeking serious competitive play.  Teams can qualify to play in this division through their performance in the previous season or through our off-season placement tournament.  Teams in this division will play one match per week in one national conference and compete for cash prizes and the chance to move up to the next skill division at the end of the season.

The Main Division (CEVO-M) is a restricted division designed for only very highly skilled and experienced teams looking for serious, near-professional competition.  Teams can qualify to play in this division through their performance in the previous season or through our off-season placement tournament.  Teams in this division will play two matches per week in one national conference and compete for cash prizes.  After Season 3, teams will no longer be able to advance into this division from the Open division.

As always, Season 3 will be completely FREE for teams to participate, regardless of skill division.  An official announcement with information about registration, important dates, prize pots, etc. will arrive in the next few weeks.  In the meantime, teams can participate in the Placement Tournament to try and secure a spot in one of our restricted skill divisions for Season 3.  This is a perfect opportunity for experienced teams that are not currently competing in CEVO to join the league and start in the most appropriate skill division without having to play through the Open division.

Registration for the Placement Tournament will open on Friday, August 23rd and will end on Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at 11:59 PM CDT, with matches beginning on Tuesday, September 10th.

Season 3 Automatic Moveups:

All teams from the Season 2 Open division that qualified for the Playoffs will be automatically moved into the Season 3 Main division and are not required to participate in the Placement Tournament.  Additionally, teams with at least a .500 record that did not qualify for the Season 2 Playoffs will be automatically moved to the Intermediate division, but may still participate in the Placement Tournament to try and secure one of the spots in the Main division.

Teams with less than a .500 record in the Season 2 Main division will be automatically moved to the Intermediate division, but may still participate in the placement tournament to try and retain their spot in the Main division.

FixationTV Coverage:

FixationTV will be covering select Season 3 Placement Tournament matches.  If your match has been selected, you must accomodate them by allowing them into your server during the match or GOTV as neccessary.  If your server doesn't have adequate space for the casters or GOTV enabled, CEVO will lend you a server that does.  If you have any questions about this, please contact CEVO Support.
